Brokn.Englsh "The Are & B.E"

Brokn.Englsh is a Hip-Hop group from Newark, NJ composed of three extremely talented lyricists, Myk Dyaleks, Lyriq2go and Cion Burris. I remember hearing about B.E around 2 years ago when Myk Dyaleks (whom I had recently met) mentioned the group to me during one of our conversations. While living in Jersey, I came across many talented artists, keeping B.E in mind. I left to Miami for a year and when I came back to Jersey in November, I finally met the rest of B.E. Not only did their music strike me (in a good way), but I was intrigued by their personality as a group, as well as individuals. Since then, I've listened to mostly all of their tracks and I have yet to complain. "Cherry Popper" off "The Drawing Board" album is one of my all time favorite songs because it talks about how music is their first love. "See, I remember my first time, first love was kinda my first rhyme". That was the hook that made me absolutely love the song because I can relate to this on so many levels.

Brokn.Englsh's new album, "The ARE & B.E", is definitely one album I have been anticipating for quite some time. I remember when I first heard "This Way" a month or so ago, I literally hit repeat on my ipod until I memorized the entire song. The album is hands down, pure dopeness, from intro to end. Besides "This Way", I have a few favorites. "Before" and "Tell Me" are 2 songs that define what "feel-good" music is supposed to sound like. With that being said, I'm adding this album to the list of "Things I enjoy listening to". If you haven't heard the album yet I suggest you do so. Only problem is you might not want to disconnect the headphones from your ears after wards.

Something? Or Nothing at All...

"Falling too fast
Clearly rules don't apply
Cant believe that I just met you
You got me here watching minutes pass by
Wondering when to expect you
There you go is this a dream
Looking like every picture that I've seen of you before
I've seen it all before now that its over
Should have known better
Then to think this was real
And you could be mine
Should have known better
Slowed it down
Cause I feel you needed time.
But I kept thinking
This could be something
Maybe it's nothing at all
I guess it's what we make it."
     -Drake

I took the time to type the lyrics so you could read and relate to what I'm about to write. Now, Drake is not one of my favorite artists, sorry to disappoint you Drake fans, but he does come out with catchy songs that stick to my head from time to time. This song in particular, "Something", gives me the most melancholic vibe I could possibly feel. Yeah I know what you're thinking, "Drake of all people?" but yes, he truly moved me with this one. He starts off by saying "Falling too fast, clearly rules don't apply". How many of us have been in a situation where you meet someone, start off with a great vibe, hang out a few times, everything is great on both ends and then out of no where, you get booted, without even knowing what happened? I am definitely not ashamed to say it's happened to me. What do you do to go back to those wonderful times you spent with that person, do you try to recreate those exact moments? It's very challenging, especially when the other person has made up their mind. But could it really have been "something" or was it just "nothing at all"? Some of us settle and offer whatever we can, perhaps a piece of ourselves, lowering our standards of love in order to hold on to something that quite possibly will never be there again. Is it really worth holding on to crazy dreams and believing that a person will actually fall in love with you just because you think you do everything right in the book? That's where I went wrong. Nobody wants too much, they all love a little challenge, don't you? I thought I was winning his heart over because I made myself available countless times, never saying "no" and guess what, it failed. An unsuccessful waste of time, because at the end, they want someone who has a little backbone. I guess my point to all this is that I wish it was a little more than just "what we make it". Love is actually out there, with out me having to sacrifice my entire mind, body and soul in order for someone to love me back. He obviously wasn't the one, and I am amazing, so I have nothing left except to move on...

Drake - Something w/ Lyrics

This song is for anyone who has had high hopes and expectations on someone they met and fell "head over heels" for instantly. It's kind of a beautiful feeling mixed with pain. Ahhh, the joy of love and heartbreaks. Haven't we all been there.

Inside Her Fairy Tale World

It's been a while since I've actually listened to a female rapper's entire album but today I found my reason to do so. This extremely talented emcee goes by the name of Emperess, oh and please don't forget the "E". Her most recent album, "Fairy Tale World" has such a feel-good vibe that it makes it extremely hard for you to unplug your headphones off your iPod, at least for me it was. The album contains 7 tracks, "Hear Me Out" featuring T.I.M.E and "Fly" featuring Myk Dyaleks of Brokn.Englsh, which just so happens to be one of my other favorite hip-hop groups. My favorite song off the album is "...Like This..." hitting home for me in that good, reminiscent way. I've had that song engraved in my mind since I first heard it. Her album all around was an amazing experience, definitely bringing something new to the table. Most rappers nowadays have lost focus on what it truly means to be a lyricist and have forgotten what hip-hop is really about. This is one thing Emperess has not failed at, in fact, she has my complete respect on that level. Inside her "Fairy Tale World" she brings you nothing but the realest, freshest rhymes. Her flow is indescribable, like a bit of neo-soul mixed with 90's making it a totally chill album. If you haven't already, I highly recommend you check it out. I promise you no disappointments. Oh, and what do you know, I've even provided a link. Just sit back, enjoy the flow and thank me later.

Definitely a Repeat

&lt;a href="http://broknenglsh.bandcamp.com/track/this-way"&gt;This Way by Brokn.Englsh&lt;/a&gt;

So Brokn Englsh (get it right, spelled as it is) has got to be one of my favorite hip-hop groups that represent us in the Dirty Jerz quite remarkably. Not only do I know them personally, but they come out with dope tracks such as this one. Get your free download, check them out =)

The Roots - How I Got Over

"Out in the streets, where I grew up, first thing they teach you is not to give a fuck. That type of thinking can't get you no where. Someone has to care."

How are we supposed to progress when our mentality and teachings are slowly decreasing? If everybody has that "I don't give a fuck" mentality how do we expect for our children and generations to become intelligent, or better yet, create? There are people dying in the streets, homeless with no place to go and all they get is laughed on with out any type of help. Children silently crying, mom's working 3 jobs, dad's never home. Who are these children looking up to? Where are the role models? Change needs to become effective as of now. We need to help instead of pointing fingers. We got mami's on the block selling a bit of what they got to make a living, but ask them how many interviews they get rejected on because of their condition. Credit scores affect the jobs we apply for. Man, this world and society is seriously nothing to die for. If you ain't up top with the bread winners, there's no way of advancing. Of course there is! Stop the negativity and keep an open mind. Change is everywhere. We have to make it.

The Roots "The Fire" feat. John Legend

So QuestLove asked for retweets and reposts, and this is what I'm doing. Supporting of course one of my favorite bands of all time. This song has such a powerful meaning, I mean everything The Roots puts out has extreme depth to it. I can't even begin to explain how dope Black Thought is...

St. Joe Louis "30,000 ft & Rising"

If you're into dope hip hop, don't sleep on St. Joe Louis. Their latest album "30,000 feet and Rising" is definitely a killer, and I mean that in the best way possible. Every track on the album is another one you will definitely be repeating countless times. Not only are they a remarkable group, but they can throw one hell of a show. Seeing them a few times and listening to their tracks officially adds them to my list of hip-hop faves. And did I mention they're from Jersey? Be sure to get your free download. Enjoy.

Pen & Pad. Chucks & Grass.

what more do I need?
a pen, a few pages
an open mentality, a stage.
planting my seeds wherever these chucks lay.
tippy-toeing through a garden of endless dreams
it seems death follows me oh too easily.
keeping mental foot notes to the side of each script,
heavily equipped to to blast off with ink.
no turning back, quick!
page flipped.

Rambling Thoughts

There's no better feeling I get than when I go home, start up my laptop and zone out with my tunes. I think that a lot of people have forgotten what real music feels like, where it came from, how it sounds and most importantly, how it makes us feel. It's so easy to just tune in to the radio or TV and listen the the repetitive sounds of mainstream. I don't knock anyone, go you for making money and becoming a success, but have we lost that appreciation for the real deal? I can't help but stress the fact that music affects and inspires all of us. Music is all around, shouldn't we be making hits that inspire rather than degrade? How about being role models for children who have nothing else to look up to except for musicians? What's going on with these female rappers representing us all the wrong ways? There are always so many questions I have running in my mind that I wish I had all the answers to. I wish some people would take a little time to listen to something other than what's popular, dig deep beneath the surface and get your little research on. Dope music, real lyrics, phat beats and talented artists are out there. Search and you will find.

Q-Tip - Life Is Better ft. Norah Jones

My "I Absolutely Love Hip-Hop" anthem...because Life is definitely better with music...

Palm Trees & Bricks

So, I decided to post an intro, give you a little visual of my life. Someone told me I had to stick to a specific type of "blog" and I laughed. I told them I write what I like, or how I feel. I have too much flowing through my mind to just stay within the norm. You will read about music, emotions, life, photography, poetry, art, love, etc. I'm excited to share my life with you. I'll start off by saying I have lived pretty much everywhere. I've seen it all.
I titled this post "Palm Trees & Bricks" for many reasons. I lived a few years in the Sunshine State hence the palm trees, and now I'm back in Newark, Nu Jeruz, Dirty Jerz, The Bricks. I have a bright side, but I don't mind being in the gloom, I actually feel at peace here.
I'm 26, I have no little mini-me's running around, It's just me and my pens, my notebooks and music. I should think twice about things but I don't know any better, making my actions pretty spontaneous. I am a student of life, I learn as I go. I wanna be able to speak my mind, write from the heart and live. I just wanna be.

Peace, Mad Love and Melodies.
